Botpress is a chat tool that gets embedded on websites. This page describes how Botpress can be detected technically, what obligation follows from Article 50 of the EU AI Act if you use Botpress, and how to check this yourself.
How Botpress is embedded technically
Botpress loads its widget from the following address(es): botpress.com, cdn.botpress.cloud. You can verify this in your browser's developer tools, under the "Network" tab, on any page you check.
Botpress also sets the JavaScript variable window.botpress on the page.
What this means for you
Botpress is an AI dialogue system. If you use Botpress on your website, the disclosure duty under Article 50(1) of the EU AI Act applies with certainty: anyone talking to the chat must be able to recognise that it is AI.
How to check this on your own site
Open your browser's developer console on your own site (usually F12) and type window.botpress. If that returns an object instead of "undefined", Botpress is embedded on the page.
What to do
Check whether the first message from your Botpress bot makes clear that an AI is responding. If it doesn't, add a disclosure right there — it has to appear in the first chat message, not in the legal notice.
